Tree Cutting By-Laws

Many cities, townships and municipalities have adopted tree cutting by-laws designed to preserve existing trees and prevent their unnecessary destruction. These by-laws pertain to tree preservation in urban environments as well as along waterways and specially zoned areas. Penalties for not adhering to the by-laws vary and can be quite severe. Exemptions to by-laws are allowed but in most cases require the involvement of a certified arborist.

CHECK WITH A CERTIFIED ARBORIST FOR CLARIFICATION OF THE LOCAL TREE CUTTING BYLAWS BEFORE YOU PERMIT ANY CUTTING OF TREES ON YOUR PROPERTY

Not knowing the details of a by-law is not considered a valid excuse for non-compliance.
